MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) - World number 134 Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus advanced to the Hungarian Open quarterfinal, seeing off Russia’s world number 103 Maria Timofeeva, 6-2, 6-4, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next face either France’s world number 221 Carole Monet or world number 137 Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands. In the opener the Aliaksandra Sasnovich defeated world number 49 Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria, 2-6, 6-2, 2-4.
In the ITF USA opener in Evansville Belarus’ Iryna Shymanovich beat Kristina Penickova of the USA, 7-6 (8-6), 7-5. In the second round Iryna Shymanovich will take on either the USA’s world No.1163 Alexis Blokhina or world number 375 Clervie Ngounoue of the United States.
At the Challenger Pozoblanco Belarus’ world number 265 Egor Gerasimov proved stronger world number 751 Nicolas Alvarez Varona of Spain, 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1. The Belarusian will next play Bulgaria’s world number 1,005 Alexander Donski for a spot in the quarterfinal.
The tournaments in Hungary, the USA and Spain will be over on 21 July.
