MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ number 103 Aliaksandra Sasnovich secured the second win to reach the Serbia Open quarterfinal in Belgrade, BelTA has learned.
In the round of Last 16 the Belarusian needed two and a half hours to see off Spain’s world number 172 Cristina Bucsa 6-4, 5-7, 6-0. Aliaksandra Sasnovich will next face either Russia’s world number 136 Kamilla Rakhimova or world number 115 Maria Serrano of Colombia. In the opener the Belarusian player defeated world number 145 Xiyu Wang of China 6-7 (6-8), 6-0, 6-2.
In the doubles quarterfinal Belarus’ Lidziya Marozava and Romania’s Andreea Mitu lost to the Serbian tandem of Aleksandra Krunic and Nina Stojanovic 2-6, 6-3, 6-10. In the previous round the Belarusian-Romanian duo defeated the Indian-Romania tandem of Ankita Raina and Mihaela Buzarnescu 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.
Belarus’ world number 91 Ilya Ivashka will face world number 20 Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria in the Geneva Open round of Last 16. In the opener the Belausian player beat world number 105 Fernando Verdasco of Spain 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Ilya Ivashka went through the qualifying stage defeating China’s world number 1,076 Li Hanwen 6-0, 6-3 and world number 120 Mackenzie Mc Donald of the United States 6-4, 6-3.
The competitions in Belgrade and Geneva will be over on 22 May.
