MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) – World number 56 Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus went off to a good start in Melbourne beating Christina McHale of the United States (World No.73) 6-3, 6-2 to reach the Australian Open round two, BelTA informs.
The Belarusian will next face either Mirjana Lucic-Baroni of Croatia (30) or Shelby Rogers of the United States (67).
Belarus’ number 66 Aryna Sabalenka will debut at the Melbourne Park against world number 17 Ashleigh Barty of Australia. In the women’s doubles opener Aryna Sabalenka and Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova will take on Sorana Cirstea of Romania and Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil.
In the men’s doubles event in Melbourne Max Mirnyi and Philipp Oswald of Austria will open against the Italian-Israeli tandem of Thomas Fabbiano and Dudi Sela. Andrei Vasilevsky of Belarus and Hans Podlipnik Castillo of Chile will play the Argentinean duet of Guido Pella and Diego Schwartzman.
