MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – Alena Kupava of Belarus clinched sambo bronze at BRICS Games 2024 on 13 June, BelTA has learned.
In the 54kg quarterfinal Alena Kupava lost to Bayarme Nehitbaatar from Mongolia. In repechage the Belarusian proved stronger against Armenia’s Arpine Mnatsakanyan. Alena Kupava’s opponent for the third-place bout was to be Uzbekistan’s Farogat Nurmamatova, but she had to withdraw. Alena Kupava secured a bronze medal.
Aliaksandr Koksha (79kg) had a chance to clinch bronze as well, but lost to Uzbekistan’s Shukhrat Normurodov. Uladzislau Burdz (58kg), Uladzislau Mardusevich (71kg), Anfisa Kapayeva (50kg), and Tatsiana Matsko (59kg) progressed to the finals. Ihar Mirayeuski (64kg) lost in the opening bout.
