MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka has made the US Open quarterfinal following a 6-2, 6-4 victory over World No.35 Elise Mertens of Belgium, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next face World No.7 Zheng Qinwen of China. On her way to the US Open quarterfinal Aryna Sabalenka secured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Australian world number 203 Priscilla Hon in the opener, and then defeated Italy’s world number 76 Lucia Bronzetti and Russia’s world number 31 Ekaterina Alexandrova.
The total prize money pool for 2024 stands at $75,000,000, with winners in the men’s and women’s events earning $3.6 million each. Novak Djokovic of Serbia won the last year’s edition beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the men’s final. Coco Gauff of the United States defeated Aryna Sabalenka to raise the women’s trophy.
