MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 7 Aryna Sabalenka has secured her second victory at the ongoing Mutua Madrid Open, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian defeated Russia’s world number 37 Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 20 minutes. Aryna Sabalenka will next face either former world number one Victoria Azarenka of Belarus (World No.15) or world number 33 Jessica Pegula of the United States.
In the opener Aryna Sabalenka saw off Russia’s world number 114 Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 6-2, while Victoria Azarenka battled through Russia’s world number 32 Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-5, 3-6, 6-1.
In the first qualifying round of the men’s event in the Spanish capital Belarus’ world number 76 Egor Gerasimov lost to Italy’s world number 91 Gianluca Mager 4-6, 3-6.
