MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number two Aryna Sabalenka has reached the Kremlin Cup quarterfinal in Moscow after seeing off Australia’s world number 43 Ajla Tomljanovic, 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-1, in two hours and ten minutes, BelTA has learned.
In a match for a spot in the semifinal the Belarusian will face either world number 57 Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine or Russia’s world number 37 Ekaterina Alexandrova.
In the women’s doubles opener Belarusian duo of Vera Lapko and Lidziya Marozava lost to Latvia-Czech Republic tandem of Jelena Ostapenko and Katerina Siniakova, 3-6, 2-6.
In the men’s singles opener Belarus’ world number 109 Egor Gerasimov defeated Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. The Belarusian, who went through the qualifying round, will next play Aslan Karatsev of Russia. Belarus’ world number 43 Ilya Ivashka has decided to withdraw from the tournament.
The prize pot for this year’s Kremlin Cup in the Russian capital is $1.345 million. The event will be over on 24 October.
