Sabalenka moves to Washington quarterfinal

MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) - World No.3 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus secured a victory in her opening match at the Mubadala Citi DC Open, defeating Russia’s world number 105 Kamilla Rakhimova, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian will next face either fellow Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (World No.20) or world number 73 Wang Yafan of China on Friday. Victoria Azarenka edged out world number 97 Hailey Baptiste of the United States, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-3) in the round of Last 32.

The Mubadala Citi DC Open will be over on 4 August. The winner will earn $142,000 and 500 points. Last year the tournament was won by Coco Gauff of the United States.
