MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 6 Aryna Sabalenka steered past world number 19 Danielle Collins of the United States, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, in two hours and 25 minutes, to reach the US Open quarterfinal, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next face world number 22 Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic who overcame Belarus’ world number 26 Victoria Azarenka, 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, in the fourth round.
In the round of Last 16 Belarus’ world number 73 Ilya Ivashka lost to Italy’s world number 13 Jannik Sinner in a close battle, 1-6, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, 3-6.
The U.S. Open is set to have a record-setting total prize of $60 million. Winners in the men’s and women’s singles events will earn $2.6 million each, finalists - $1.3 million. The final Grand Slam event of the year will be over on 11 September.
