MINSK, 30 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number two Aryna Sabalenka powered into the third round of Roland Garros with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Japan’s world number 83 Moyuka Uchijima, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next play either Spain’s world number 139 Paula Badosa or world number 39 Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan. In the opener Aryna Sabalenka cruised past Russia’s world number 100 Erika Andreeva, 6-1, 6-2.
Belarus’ world number 21 Victoria Azarenka eased past Argentina’s world number 59 Nadia Podoroska, 6-1, 6-0, in the opening round. Victoria Azarenka will next take on World No.38 Mirra Andreeva of Russia. A year ago Aryna Sabalenka reached the French Open semifinal, while Victoria Azarenka was out in the first round.
The 123rd edition of the French Open will finish on 9 June. The 2024 French Open prize money is €53.5 million which is an all-time high. Winners in the men’s and women’s events will earn €2.4 million and 2000 points each. Last year the event winners were Iga Swiatek of Poland and Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
