MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 3 Aryna Sabalenka reached the Canadian Open quarterfinal seeing off UK's world number 33 Katie Boulter, 6-3, 6-3, BelTA has learned.
Earlier, the Belarusian eased through her opener, defeating No.42 Yuan Yue of China, 6-2, 6-2. Aryna Sabalenka will next take on world number 132 Amanda Anisimova of the United States.
Belarus’ world number 19 Victoria Azarenka had to retire due to an injury in the middle of the match against world number 53 Peyton Stearns of the United States. Victoria Azarenka saw off Russia’s world number 29 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the opener and defeated Belgium's world number 74 Greet Minnen, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the round of Last 32.
The winner of the tournament in Toronto, which is due to complete on 11 August, will earn 1,000 points and $523,400.
