MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 5 Aryna Sabalenka has reached her first Australian Open final, defeating Poland’s world number 45 Magda Linette, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2, in an hour and 33 minutes, BelTA has learned.
In the final Aryna Sabalenka will face Kazakhstan’s world number 25 Elena Rybakina who beat Belarus’ world number 24 Victoria Azarenka, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, in the first semifinal. Victoria Azarenka won the Australian Open in 2012 and 2013.
The men’s semifinals will be played on 27 January. World number 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece will play Russia’s world number 20 Karen Khachanov, and Australian Open nine-time winner Novak Djokovic of Serbia (World No.5) will take on world number 35 Tommy Paul of the United States.
The Australian Open prize money for 2023 is $51.5 million. Winners in the men’s and women’s singles events will get $2 million each. The tournament at the Melbourne Park hard courts will be over on 29 January.
