MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 7 Aryna Sabalenka progressed into the Cincinnati Masters second round defeating Russia’s world number 69 Anna Kalinskaya because of the opponent’s walkover, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian led 6-3, 4-1 when Anna Kalinskaya pulled out. The Belarusian will next face world number 30 Shelby Rogers of the United States.
Belarus’ world number 22 Victoria Azarenka, former world number one, lost to World number 13 Emma Raducanu of the UK, 0-6, 2-6, in the second round. The British player will next play world number 8 Jessica Pegula of the United States. In the opener Victoria Azarenka saw off Estonia’s world number 31 Kaia Kanepi, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
In the doubles event Victoria Azarenka and Ons Jabeur of Tunisia reached the quarterfinal beating the Chinese duo Xu Yifan and Yang Zhaoxuan, 7-5, 6-2. Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova also progressed into the quarterfinal seeing off Jessie Aney and Ingrid Neel of the United States, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7.
The tournament in Cincinnati will be over on 21 August.
