MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 20 Aryna Sabalenka has reached the 2018 Wuhan Open semifinal in China, BelTA informs.
In the quarterfinal the Belarusian defeated Slovakia’s Dominika Cibulkova, the world number 31, 7-5, 6-3. On the way to the semifinal Aryna Sabalenka beat Spain’s world number 22 Carla Suarez Navarro 7-6, 2-6, 6-2, World No.6 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, and U.S. world number 62 Sofia Kenin 6-3, 6-3.
Aryna Sabalenka will next play Australia’s world number 17 Ashleigh Barty.
In the women’s doubles quarterfinal Belarus’ Lidziya Marozava and Japan’s Shuko Aoyama saw off the Hungarian-French tandem of Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic 6-2, 7-5.
At the tournament in Tashkent Belarus’ Vera Lapko, the world number 64, lost 3-6, 5-7 to Germany’s world number 94 Mona Barthel in the quarterfinal.
