MINSK, 15 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka secured an almost routine win, 6-2, 6-4, over Latvia’s world number 10 Jelena Ostapenko to make the Italian Open semifinal, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next play either Belarus’ world number 24 Victoria Azarenka or world number 15 Danielle Collins of the United States. Before that, Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ukraine’s world number 33 Dayana Yastremska, 6-4, 6-2. The Belarusian will next play world number 10 Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, and Ukraine’s world number 19 Elina Svitolina, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7).
Poland’s world number one Iga Swiatek will face world number 3 Coco Gauff of the United States in the first semifinal on 16 May.
The competitions in the Italian capital will be over on 19 May.
