MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 7 Aryna Sabalenka has reached the Mutua Madrid Open semifinal, BelTA has learned.
In the quarterfinal the Belarusian proved stronger over her doubles partner Elise Mertens of Belgium who had to withdraw due to an injury while trailing 6-1, 4-0.
Aryna Sabalenka will now face world number 41 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia in the final four. The other semifinal will feature world number one Ashleigh Barty of Australia and Spain’s world number 62 Paula Badosa.
On her way to the semifinal Aryna Sabalenka cruised past Russia’s world number 114 Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 6-2, defeated Russia’s world number 37 Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 6-3 and powered past Jessica Pegula of the United States (No.33) 6-1, 6-2.
The Mutua Madrid Open will be over on 8 May.
