Sabalenka advances to Madrid Open round three

MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka defeated Poland's world number 48 Magda Linette 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the Mutua Madrid Open second round, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian will next face either world number 28 Katie Boutler of the UK or world number 183 Robin Montgomery of the United States. Aryna Sabalenka won the Madrid Open in 2021 and 2023.

Belarus’ world number 26 Victoria Azarenka secured a solid, 6-3, 6-1, win over Germany’s world number 67 Tatjana Maria in the opener. The Belarusian will next take on Spain’s world number 55 Sara Sorribes Tormo. Victoria Azarenka won the Madrid doubles event in 2011 and 2023.

The current edition in the Spanish capital will be over on 5 May.
