Sabalenka advances at Dubai Tennis Championships

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – Belarus world number eight Aryna Sabalenka kicked off her campaign at the 2021 Dubai Tennis Championships with a 6-2, 6-4 win over France’s world number 59 Alize Cornet, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian will next face either Estonia’s world number 24 Anett Kontaveit or Romania’s world number 67 Sorana Cirstea for a spot in the quarterfinal. In the doubles event Aryna Sabalenka will team up with Belgium’s Elise Mertens.

In the 2021 Open 13 Provence round of Last 32 in Marseille, France world number 76 Egor Gerasimov of Belarus will take on Germany's world number 105 Yannick Hanfmann. The winner will face Russia’s world number 3 Daniil Medvedev in the round of Last 16.

The tournament in Dubai will be over on 13 March, the competitions in Marseille – on 14 March.
