MINSK, 5 August (BelTA) - Russian Regina Shaidullina became the first champion of the 2nd CIS Games, BelTA has learned.
On the opening day of the weightlifting tournament in Grodno, the Russian athlete won a gold medal in the 45kg weight category. Regina Shaidullina lifted a total of 150kg (65kg in the snatch, 85kg in the clean and jerk). Silver went to Thi Yen Dao of Vietnam - 141kg (63kg + 78kg). Belarusian Polina Pichugina placed third with 135kg (58kg + 77kg).
Three more medal events will be held in the Grodno Ice Palace: women’s 49kg and 55kg, men’s 55 kg.
Athletes from nine countries are competing in the 2nd CIS Games weightlifting tournament. It will be running until 9 August.
