MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) – Packard 640 Dial Cowl Phaeton of 1929 will make its debut in Minsk at the 12th international festival of vintage cars Retro Minsk 2019 on 18 May, Head of the AvtoAmerica public association Aleksandr Shurin told BelTA.
The festival dedicated to the history of the word automobile industry will bring together around 130 teams from Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia. The festival will showcase legendary cars like a Ford V8 of 1939, a hippie van Volkswagen T-1 of 1963, a “green crocodile” Citroen CX Sixwheeler Turbo (1986), a Ford Gran Torino (1972) –as old as the one from Clint Eastwood’s “Gran Torino”. “This year, a rare custom-designed Packard 640 Dial Cowl Phaeton of 1929 will make its debut at the festival. The unique car has an eight-cylinder engine with the working volume of 385 square inches (6.8 liter) and boasts the 106 horsepower capacity. It is 204 inches long and weights 4,370 pounds. This car can surely claim the title of the most beautiful vintage car in the country,” Aleksandr Shurin said.
He also spoke about the program of the festival. According to it, the parade of unique vintage cars will arrive at State Flag Square accompanied by the Belarusian Interior Ministry orchestra at 10:30. At 13:00, the cars will move on to Victory Square and then to Oktyabrskaya Square. After making a lap around Victory Square, the participants will commemorate heroes of the Great Patriotic War, lay flowers at the Eternal Flame by the Victory Monument.
Visitors of the event will be able to take a photo with legendary cars in State Flag Square and later near the Palace of the Republic where the exposition will stay open till 17:00.
The festival is organized by AvtoAmerica and the BRSM Youth Union.
