MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – The Raubichi National Olympic Training Center will play host to the FIS Eastern Europe Cup on 15-17 January, BelTA learnt from the Sport and Tourism Ministry of Belarus.
Partaking in the competitions will be more than 150 skiers from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. Athletes from Latvia and Lithuania are also expected to take part.
Belarus will be represented by nearly 80 athletes, including leaders of the Belarusian national team Sergei Dolidovich, Mikhail Semenov and Yulia Tikhonova.
The Belarusian team will mainly consist of athletes under 23.
For many Belarusian skiers these competitions will be a good chance to qualify for the world youth and junior championships.
The FIS Eastern Europe Cup will open with the men’s 10km and women’s 5km races. Sprint races will take place on 16 January. The competitions will be wrapped up with the men’s 20km and women’s 10km skiathlon.
Among the organizers of the tournament is the International Ski Federation (FIS), the Sport and Tourism Ministry of Belarus, the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, the Minsk City Hall, the National Olympic Committee, the Belarusian Ski Union, the Belarusian Ski Federation.
