MINSK, 30 April (BelTA) - The Day of Sweden will be celebrated in Minsk on 1 June. The Upper Town will see many exciting contests, entertainment and educational events, Ambassador of Sweden to Belarus Christina Johannesson told the media, BelTA has learned.
The Day of Sweden evening concert program will be headlined by famous singer, Eurovision winner Loreen. The line-up will also feature a Belarusian band.
“Since our day coincides with the World Children's Day this year, all venues hosting the celebrations will work in the inclusive format,” the ambassador said.
The musical program will be diverse featuring romantic ballads by Jens Lekman and a Swedish choir. World-famous hits by Swedish bands will be played by Piotr Kluyev’s band. Visitors to the Swedish eco-yard will learn more about eco-Fika, meet an inclusive barista, learn to sort waste and see an eco-theater performance.
The Volvo Operators Club looks set to impress with a spectacular event. Equipment operators will compete in building a pyramid out of wooden beams and setting a bucket with water on top of it. Two best-performers will advance to the European finals and will compete for the championship title.
A Swedish quest for teens, and fitness classes in Swedish for healthy lifestyle enthusiasts will be also on the program. The contest “Let’s Wear Sweden on Sweden Day” will invite people to don Swedish costumes or clothing in the colors of the Swedish state symbols. More information about the contest will be available on the embassy’s social networks in May. Another artistic contest, a video competition in Instagram under the hashtag #Швецыяпобач (Sweden is close), will be launched soon. It suggests Belarusians to shoot a video about things Swedish(music, language, style, design, etc.) in their life. The winner will receive a certificate for a tour to Sweden for two persons.
This year the Day of Sweden will be held not only in Minsk but also in Gomel. The regional library will arrange the intellectual game What? Where? When? about Sweden. The program in Gomel will also include a musical based on the pieces by Swedish authors and workshops on Gotland wool felting.
The Day of Sweden will be the final event of the Week of Sweden in Minsk which will feature a film festival, the launch of a children's book by Swedish authors translated into Belarusian, a concert of classical music and competitions in Nordic walking.
