MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – The international expo headlined as Primers of All Nations featuring about 1400 primers in 587 languages will open in the National Library of Belarus on 26 April, BelTA learned from the National Library.
The expo will be dedicated to a remarkable date, the 400th anniversary of the first Primer published in Belarus, the source stated. The expo will showcase the books from all over the world, each one of them being a tiny encyclopedia with vivid and exciting pieces of information on history, geography and culture of its nation.
The spotlight will be on the unique primers and ABCs from the private collection of Yuris Tsibuls, Latvian educator, collector and the author of primers and books about different nations and their languages. This collection consisting of more than 10,000 books in more than 1000 languages is the biggest one in the world.
The expo will also highlight the Belarusian grammar books of the 16th-21st centuries from the National Library archives. These books, varied in their content, art decoration, graphics and educative methods, show all the 400-year history of Belarusian primers.
A memorial stone commemorating the first primer will be unveiled during the expo.
The event has been organized with the help of the Embassy of Latvia in Belarus, the Embassy of Belarus in Latvia and the European Union project MOST.
The expo will stay open till September 2018.
