MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – Pope Francis has been presented with his book The Name of God Is Mercy translated into the Belarusian language, BelTA learned from the official website of the Roman Catholic Church of Belarus.
The book was presented during a general audience in the Vatican by Vitebsk bishop Oleg Butkevich and Apostolic Visitor for Greek Catholics in Belarus Archimandrite Sergei Gayek.
Pope Francis signed two copies of the book. The one will be kept in the Belarusian editors’ office of the Vatican Radio and the other will go to Belarus. The book will help Belarusian believers to understand the essence of the Year of Mercy announced in the Roman Catholic Church.
Archimandrite Sergei Gayek and bishop Oleg Butkevich were the initiators of translating the book The Name of God Is Mercy into Belarusian and addressed the Belarusian editors’ office of the Vatican Radio for help. The book was translated by member of the Belarusian editors’ office Alexander Panchenko.
In the book Pope Francis tells Italian journalist Andrea Tornielli about his life and pastoral experience, touching upon the themes of the meaning of life, peace and confession, and also explains the reasons for the Year of Mercy in the Roman Catholic Church.
The book The Name of God Is Mercy was published by the Minsk printing house Medisont in 950 copies.
