MOGILEV, 12 October (BelTA) – The agro-town of Lenino, Gorki District will host the event to mark the 74th anniversary of the Battle of Lenino on 12 October, BelTA from the main department for ideology, culture and youth affairs of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee.
Taking part in the event will be a Polish delegation comprising veterans and delegates of youth patriotic movements and also the authorities of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee, the Gorki District Executive Committee, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, representatives of labor collectives, the public and the youth.
The program will include wreath and flower ceremonies at the graves to Soviet and Polish soldiers, church services with the participation of Orthodox, Catholic and evangelic priests. A solemn meeting will be held at the Soviet and Polish Comradeship-in-Arms Museum.
On 12 October 1943 the Polish 1st Tadeusz Kosciuszko Infantry Division under the command of General Zygmunt Berling, together with the soldiers of the Red Army, took part in their first battle against the Nazis near the Belarusian village of Lenino. The total number of the Polish units made up about 12,000 people. The Battle of Lenino became a symbol of the Soviet-Polish comradeship-in-arms.
