Plans to open Chinese culture center in Brest

BREST, 26 January (BelTA) – Plans have been made to open a Chinese language and culture center at Brest State Technical University (BSTU), BelTA learned from coordinator of research activities at BSTU Dmitry Makaruk.

The opening of the center will mark the 50th anniversary of the university. Chinese language courses will start in March. The courses will be taught by native speakers assisted by BSTU students from China. As many as 50 people have already shown interest in the courses. There are plans to provide the students of the center with an opportunity to win a master’s degree scholarship to study in China.

“The center will contribute to the development of our cultural, trade and economic ties. Many students, teachers, businessmen, and heads of Brest Oblast enterprises express interest in studying Chinese,” Dmitry Makaruk pointed out.

The center will also hold different events. For example, it will play host to the Belarusian-Chinese robotics festival in April. The program of the festival features open lectures and engineering workshops. Robots made by students of BSTU, Belarusian National Technical University, and the Northeastern University of China will compete in RoboRace and RoboSumo.

As many as 129 Chinese citizens currently study at Brest State Technical University. Most of them major in economy, construction, and information technology.
