MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) – A Belarus-China university might be set up at Belarusian State University (BSU) within half a year, BSU Rector Andrei Korol told reporters on 16 January, BelTA has learned.
“Having a joint institute with one of China’s engineering universities, we are about to set up our own university. This matter was discussed in detail at a meeting attended by Belarus’ Education Minister Igor Karpenko and Belarus’ Ambassador to China Kirill Rudy. This university might be set up within half a year,” Andrei Korol said.
He noted that Belarus’ education should be recognizable and understandable in the world. “Students come to study here. Today every tenth student at BSU is a foreigner, and every other foreign student is from China. Every country should be known for something, including in education. We have developed a certain strategy. The number and choice of certain disciplines cannot guarantee good quality; the quality is ensured through the educational process. We should give teachers an opportunity to improve their qualifications, which is one of the major tasks, and the Education Ministry is working on it,” the BSU head underlined.
