MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian industrial group Planar is working together with heart surgeons to develop an artificial heart valve based on biological technologies, BelTA learned from Oleg Goretsky, Director of the Elektronmash factory, which is part of the industrial group Planar.
According to the source, patients, who opt for biological heart valves, will be able to avoid certain dependence on medications, which mechanical heart valves require. Biological heart valves are believed to be capable of substantially improving the quality of life for such patients.
At present Planar makes about 1,000 mechanical heart valves every year. The quality of the product has been confirmed by Belarusian and foreign heart surgeons. The product is being constantly improved and modified. There are plans to go through certification procedures in the European Union by late 2018 in order to penetrate the European market.
The precision engineering industrial group Planar represents a tightly integrated set of enterprises, which use cutting-edge technologies and a synergy of the latest R&D advances in various fields of knowledge to develop and make most complicated optical mechanics equipment, control and measuring equipment, and assembly equipment for microelectronics industry.
