MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – Minsk and Riga are planning to cooperate more closely in promoting their products in retail networks in the two cities, Mayor of Minsk and Riga Andrei Shorets and Nil Ushakov told media in Minsk on 8 April, BelTA has learned.
“The project which we are presenting today is called Riga Patio. We have shown how this project has been implemented in Moscow, and it was successful before the sanctions were imposed,” Nil Ushakov said. For his part, Andrei Shorets expressed confidence that in response Minsk Quarter will be arranged in Riga.
“This project is a business model that successfully worked in Moscow. How? We arranged a place with stands selling Latvian goods in retail outlets. We promoted our products as organic and there are all reasons for this. In addition, we offered some alternative products,” the chairman of the city development committee of Riga Duma Maksim Tolstoy explained.
Nil Ushakov stressed that Latvia does not want to create competition for Belarusian goods. “We offer products that can extend the product range ". He also noted that the task of the city authorities is to create the optimum political background which businessmen could further monetize.
In 2014 Belarus raised more than $85 million in Latvian investment, including $21 million in direct investment. As of 1 January 2015 there were 772 companies established by legal entities and natural persons of Latvia in Belarus, with 66 legal entities with the Latvian participation registered in 2014. In Latvia, there are more than 2,000 enterprises with Belarus participation.
