MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – A ceremony to sign an agreement on setting up a Belarusian-Chinese R&D center for computer semantics, artificial intelligence systems, and smart technologies Wu Xing took place in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) on 18 January, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian-Chinese center will be part of the Center for System Analysis and Strategic Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Guangzhou Education, Research and Technology Company Wu Xing is the Chinese partner in the project. The Belarusian-Chinese center is supposed to bolster the development of Chinese studies in Belarus by leveraging the latest scientific achievements in the sphere of information technologies. The center is also supposed to form a highly professional environment in the area of Chinese studies in Belarus.
The center is expected to have departments focusing on Chinese studies, computer semantics, artificial intelligence systems, and smart technologies. Tasks of the new organization will include providing assistance to Belarusian education institutions in teaching Chinese as a foreign language and disciplines relating to Chinese studies, providing enlightenment with regard to Chinese material and spiritual culture, and promoting Belarusian culture in a Chinese language environment. The center will be used to host research and development in the area of legal support for R&D cooperation. It will be used to monitor scientific research and development efforts of legal and innovative nature of NASB organizations and Guangdong Province organizations. The center will also work out proposals to be assimilated by the real sectors of the Belarusian and Chinese economies. The new research organization will ensure the full participation of the Belarusian scientific community in events and projects relating to scientific support and R&D support for the implementation of China’s Belt and Road initiative. The center will also contribute to the expansion of political, economic, scientific, educational, and cultural ties of Belarus and China.
Wu Xing (literally “five elements”) stands for five basic elements of the world – wood, fire, earth, metal, and water – in the Chinese traditional folk spiritual culture.
Guangzhou Education, Research and Technology Company Wu Xing provides consulting services in the area of business administration, corporate administration, education, R&D cooperation, investments, sport and cultural events. The company is licensed to implement projects in these spheres and manages part of the Belt and Road Fund. It was established on 20 June 2017 and has a charter capital of ¥3 million.
