BREST, 12 March (BelTA) – The Sviatoslav Richter international competition for young pianists will take place in Brest on 13-20 March, BelTA learned from Director of the Regional Music Society, Merited Artist of Belarus Lilia Batyreva.
Applications were submitted by 38 young pianists from five countries - Belarus, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Russia, and Ukraine. The participants will compete in three age groups ranging from 12 to 24 years. They will perform by memory Bach’s polyphony (suites, partitas, preludes, and fugues), sonatas by the Viennese Classics (Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven), a piano composition of choice, a piece by a Belarusian composer of the 19th-21st centuries. A performance is to last 20-25 minutes depending on a participant’s age.
The international jury will be led by Associate Professor of the Belarusian State Academy of Music Vladimir Dulov.
The Sviatoslav Richter international competition for young pianists is designed to celebrate the great pianist who performed in Brest many times, to help fledgling pianists hone their professional skills, to promote the works of the world classics and Belarusian composers, to present various piano schools and to arrange meetings with outstanding pianists of the 21st century.
The competition is held once in two years. It is organized by the Brest City Council, the Regional Music Society, and Shirma Brest Music College.
