MOGILEV, 28 August (BelTA) – An alley of linden trees will be planted by participants of the Fifth Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia near Mogilev, Mogilev Mayor Vladimir Tsumarev said during a meeting of the city administration, BelTA has learned.
The alley of regions of Belarus and Russia symbolizing the dynamic development of cooperation and friendship between the two fraternal peoples will feature 35-40 trees. It will be planted near the Buinichi Field Memorial. A memorial sign with a name and date when the alley was planted will be installed at the entrance to the alley near the memorial chapel built in honor of the soldiers killed while defending Mogilev in 1941. Every tree will have a sign indicating the region whose representatives have planted it.
“Buinichi Field was not a random choice. It was the spot where Belarusians and Russians stood side by side defending the Motherland and demonstrated unrivaled courage and heroism. The battle lasted for 23 days. Well-known writer Konstantin Simonov wrote about the battle in his works and wished his ashes to be scattered on Buinichi Field,” representatives of the Mogilev City Hall said.
According to Director of Mogilevzelenstroi Piotr Alekseichikov, trees have already been selected and prepared for planting. These are young linden trees. The alley will be plated between the memorial chapel and the village of Buinichi. It will be the third memorial alley in the field. The first one to honor the Mogilev defenders was planted on 17 April 2004. The second one to mark the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory was created on 18 April 2015.
