MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – A photo exhibition featuring major events in the history of sovereign Belarus has opened at the Palace of Independence, BelTA has learned.

The photos cover two decades in the life of the Belarusian state. They highlight significant political events of nationwide and international importance, landmark national projects. The exhibition also features cultural and religious events, the development of various branches of the national economy and big political events.

The exhibition is inseparably connected with the activities of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. It includes the photos of meetings with famous political and cultural figures, photos from the personal archives of the Belarusian leader, photos of working trips to Belarusian regions, including trips to Chernobyl-affected territories, and photos of the president taking part in the harvest campaign.

A photo from Alexander Lukashenko’s inauguration ceremony which took place at the Palace of Independence in November 2015 occupies a central place in the exhibition. It is accompanied by photos of Alexander Lukashenko during the opening of the State Flag Square, meetings with youth, Belarusian Olympic athletes.

The exhibition also includes photos of the president with Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and Pope Francis.

It also illustrates Belarus’ multi-vector policy, the country’s active participation in global processes, the Eurasian and Western vectors of cooperation. It also has the photos from the UN, OSCE, CIS, SCO, CSTO summits, the Belt and Road forum in Beijing, the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana in the run-up to the signing of the EAEU Treaty, the Normandy Four meeting in Minsk, the signing of the Belarus-Russia Union State Treaty.

The exhibition also includes the photos featuring the president’s interest in sport. They depict the Belarusian head of state during an ice hockey match, a ski race, a football match between the teams of football veterans and students. There is a photo of the president during a bike festival. One of the photos from Alexander Lukashenko’s archives was made in 1975 when he was preparing for his university studies.

The head of state toured the exhibition on 31 August.
