BREST, 17 August (BelTA) – Over 80 events have been planned for the 25th edition of the Belarusian Written Language Day celebrations, BelTA learned from head of the ideology and youth department of the Ivanovo District Executive Committee Galina Klimovich.

The celebrations will take place in the town of Ivanovo, Brest Oblast, on 1-2 September. The festivities will be based around two dozen venues. “The program features events suggested by ministries and central government bodies and local authorities (the Brest Oblast Executive Committee and the Ivanovo District Executive Committee). Apart from that, delegations and visitors will be offered excursions to museums and other tourist attractions of the district,” Galina Klimovich said.

The first day will be dedicated to literature. The Napoleon Orda Museum Complex will host an international roundtable session of Belarusian and foreign authors. The town square will be the venue for the traditional festival of books and press. The program of this festival includes an autograph signing by Belarusian writers, presentations of the best editions of fiction, non-fiction and children’s literature and a campaign Let’s Read Kupala Together.

The Ivanovo District Culture and Local Lore Center will turn into a huge exhibition venue. One of the expositions will tell a story behind the world’s first Primer published some 400 years ago. Visitors will see holograms of ancient books from the collections of the National Library of Belarus. There will be an exhibition of books from the funds of the Brest Oblast Library and an exhibition of documents dedicated to Yanka Kupala and Mikhas Zaretsky. The final stage of the junior recitation contest Live Classics will be held at the center in the evening.

On 1 September the Belkniga bookstore chain will solemnly open a bookstore Verasen in the local department store. A brass music festival and a woodcarving plein-air will be held in the municipal park.

A commemorative plaque dedicated to the anniversary edition of the Belarusian Written Language Day will be unveiled on 17th September Street during the second day of the celebrations. A solemn ceremony to celebrate winners of the National Literature Award will take place on the main stage of the municipal park.
