MINSK, 16 August (BelTA) – Over 500 athletes will participate in the European Judo Open in Minsk, Chairman of the Belarusian Judo Federation Pavel Yasenovsky told the media, BelTA informs.
The international tournament will be held for the 20th time. According to the head of the Belarusian Judo Federation, Chizhovka Arena will host such a tournament for the first time. “Before, we organized the competitions at the Palace of Sports. The European Judo Open will be a test event ahead of the 2nd European Games MINSK 2019. Over 500 wrestlers will take to Chizhovka Arena on 18-19 August. The European Judo Open in Minsk was recognized the best last season,” Pavel Yasenovsky said.
According to the head of the federation, the competitions in Chizhovka Arena will be the final event ahead of the World Judo Championships in Baku on 20-27 September. The European Judo Open will feature medal events in the men’s 60kg, 66kg, 73kg, 81kg, 90kg, 100kg and over 100kg weight categories. Women will compete for medals in the 48kg, 52kg, 57kg, 63kg, 70kg, 78kg, and over 78kg weight categories.
Taking part in the tournament will be athletes from 42 countries. According to the preliminary number of applications, the biggest teams will be from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and the Netherlands.
The judo tournament at the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 will take place at Chizhovka Arena on 25-30 June 2019. The tournament will include 15 medal events.
