Over 216,000 foreigners visit Belarusian health resorts in 2016

Belarusian health resort  PriozernyKOBRIN DISTRICT, 16 February (BelTA) – Belarusian health resorts have been gradually increasing the export of their services, Director of the Belarusian national center of health resort treatment and recuperation Gennady Bolbatovsky said during the meeting at the Kolos children’s health center, Kobrin District on 16 February, BelTA has learned.

In 2016 Belarusian health resorts provided Br157.9 million worth of services to foreign citizens, up 32.6% from 2015. The number of foreigners who visited Belarusian health resorts last year increased by 21,600 to a total of 216,200 people.

According to Gennady Bolbatovsky, the health resorts Yunost, Sosny and Priozerny led among the Belarusian health resorts in export earnings. Last year, the health resorts of Minsk Oblast, Grodno Oblast and Gomel Oblast were the biggest contributors to the export of health services to foreigners, accounting for 36.1%, 12.7% and 10.9% respectively.

“Last year, thanks to the improved quality and variety of services, new services and optimal prices, the country’s health resorts provided Br57.6 million worth of services which are not part of the standard package. An increase was 50% from 2015. More than 37% of these services were provided to foreign nationals,” noted Gennady Bolbatovsky.

In 2016, 1,290,500 people took advantage of the health improvement and wellness programs. Some 742,200 people used the vouchers sponsored by the national budget and the state non-budgetary social security fund. Some 548,300 people were self-funded or company-sponsored clients.

“The development of the health improvement and wellness system is an important part of the Belarusian state social and economic policy. The goal is to preserve and improve the health of citizens. It is well-developed and competitiveness and brings more tourists to our country,” Gennady Bolbatovsky said.

The occupancy rate for health improvement and wellness centers in Belarus has been about 80% in recent years.

In Belarus there are currently 324 certified health centers with the 67,400 bed space.
