MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – Alena Omelyusik finished second in the team time trial at the UCI Road World Championships 2016 in Doha on 9 October, BelTA has learned.

Canyon SRAM comprising Belarus’ Alena Omelyusik, Hannah Barnes of the UK, German cyclists Trixi Worrack, Lisa Brennauer, Mieke Kroger and Elena Cecchini of Italy clocked 49 minutes and 29 seconds to cover the 40km distance.

First came in Boels Dolmans Cyclingteam of the Netherlands with the time of 48:41.62. Bronze went to Cervelo Bigla Pro Cycling Team (based in Switzerland) that finished 1:56.47 behind the winner.

In the men’s event Sky featuring Vasily Kiriyenko of Belarus finished fourth. Belgium’s Quick Step clocked 48:32.39 to win the men’s time trial. Vasily Kiriyenko is reigning world champion 2015 in the individual time trial. The athlete will attempt to defend his title on 12 October.

The UCI Road World Championships 2016 in Doha will be over on 16 October.
