MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ Abubakar Khaslakhanau has progressed to the Greco-Roman wrestling quarterfinal at the ongoing 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian is competing in the 97kg weight category. Abubakar Khaslakhanau is second-seeded among 16 wrestlers. The Belarusian faced Georgia’s Roberti Kobliashvili in 1/8 final. Abubakar Khaslakhanau edged the opponent 1-0 in the first three-minute period and secured his advantage in the second period to clinch a convincing victory, 9-1. The Belarusian will next take on Egypt’s Muhamed Gabr.
Abubakar Khaslakhanau is a world champion (2021 and 2023), a silver medalist of the European U23 Wrestling Championships and a bronze medalist of the European Wrestling Championships in 2024. The Belarusian also won gold medals at the 2nd CIS Games in Belarus and the 2024 Grand Prix Zagreb Open.
