MINSK, 17 August (BelTA) – Tatyana Sharakova of Belarus finished 9th in the Olympic omnium in Rio, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian was 8th ahead of the final race. In the 25km points race Sharakova scored 50 points to rank 4th. With the total of 164 points she placed 9th in the overall standings.
The Belarusian ended the opening day at the 5th position. She produced the best result among all 18 contenders in the scratch race, scoring 40 points. The Belarusian finished 10th in the individual pursuit (22 points) and 7th in the elimination race (28 points). Tatyana Sharakova was 17th in the time trial, earning 8 points, and came in 13th in the flying lap (16 points).
Tatyana Sharakova repeated her 2012 Olympics result in London where she also placed 9th in the discipline.
Laura Trott of the UK retained her omnium title in Rio with 230 points. Four years ago she claimed the omnium champion title in London. American Sarah Hammer took silver with 206 points. Bronze went to Belgium's Jolien D'Hoore (199 points).
