MINSK, 12 January (BelTA) – Runner Olga Mazurenok and hammer-thrower Ivan Tikhon have been presented with the 2016 Atletika Awards, BelTA has learned.
Ivan Tikhon clinched silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The athlete was also presented with a commemorative badge of the Sports and Tourism Ministry for contribution to sport development in the country. Olga Mazurenok finished fifth at the 2016 Rio Games, showing one of her best time records. Olga Tarantayeva and Valery Oksenchuk were named Coaches of the Year 2016.
The U21 Atletika Award went to Pavel Seliverstov (high jump) and Anna Malyshchik (hammer throwing). Alexander Nosov was recognized as the best coach in the category.
A special award in the Breakthrough of the Year nomination was bestowed upon Tatiana Kholodovich, the European champion in javelin throwing. The Belarusian Athletics Federation has instituted one more award, Character of the Year. The award went to Nikita Kolyada and Anastasia Puzakova.
The Atletika Junior Award was bestowed upon decathlete Maxim Andraloit, runner Elvira German and coach Viktor Myasnikov.
The Atletika Youth Award went to Viktoriya Zakharchuk (100m Hurdles) and Igor Zhubko (400m running course). Tatiana Khramova was elected as the best coach in the age category.
The Atletika Award is a bronze statuette instituted by the Belarusian Athletics Federation in 2014.
