NOC Executive Board names Belarus’ roster for the Winter Games in Beijing

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) - The Executive Board of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus approved the sports delegation for the 24th Winter Olympic Games in Beijing at a meeting on 17 January, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian National Olympic Committee.

Twenty-eight Belarusian athletes passed the qualification in six sports for the Winter Olympics.

Biathlon: Dzinara Alimbekava, Hanna Sola, Iryna Leshchanka, Irina Kruchinkina, Elena Kruchinkina, Anton Smolski, Maksim Varabei, Mikita Labastau, Dzmitry Lazouski, Raman Yaliotnau

Alpine skiing: Maria Shkanova

Speed skating: Ignat Golovatsiuk, Maryna Zuyeva, Ekaterina Sloeva, Anna Nifontova, Yauheniya Varabyova

Cross-country skiing: Anastasia Kirillova, Hanna Karaliova, Alexander Voronov, Yahor Shpuntau

Figure skating: Victoriia Safonova, Konstantin Milyukov

Freestyle skiing: Hanna Huskova, Hanna Dziaruha, Stanislau Hladchanka, Maksim Hustik, Pavel Dzik, Makar Mitrafanau.

There are two weeks ahead of the start of the Games. The roster is subject to change.

Aleksandr Gagiyev, Director of the National Winter Olympic Training Centre Raubichi, has been confirmed as chief de mission of the Belarusian Olympic team to the 24th Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. Previously, he was the chief de mission of the Belarusian sports delegation at the 31st Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and deputy chief de mission of the Belarusian team at the 1st European Games 2015 in Baku.

The NOC Executive Board also reviewed the preparations for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. Belarusian Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Aleksandr Baraulya reported on the final stage of the preparations. Irina Malevanaya, Director of the National Research Center of Sports reported on the medical support of the sports delegation.

The 24th Olympic Winter Games will take place in the Chinese capital on 4-20 February. Medal events will he held across seven sports in 109 disciplines. The Games will present for the first time competitions in women's slopestyle (freestyle), men's and women's big air (snowboarding), mixed relay in short track and women's individual races in bobsleigh.

The Olympics will be held at 25 venues located in three clusters. The organizers make full use of the venues of the 2008 Summer Olympics, thus significantly reducing costs and avoiding a huge construction project in Beijing. The mascot of the upcoming competitions will be Bing Dwen Dwen.
