New rhythmic gymnastics center in Minsk in 2017

MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) – The new rhythmic gymnastics center will be built near Minsk Arena in 2017, head coach of the Belarusian national rhythmic gymnastics team Irina Leparskaya told a press briefing, BelTA learned.

“So far it is just the foundation pit at the site of the future center,” she said.

“Gymnasts and coaches from many countries want to visit Belarus to train and learn from us. But we have no place to receive them. The building of the National Olympic Rhythmic Gymnastics Training Center in Daumana Street is small. The original construction project underwent some changes. It will accommodate 300-400 people although it was initially designed for 3,000, and will be intended for training only. But I am really happy that the things finally got off the ground. The center is to be commissioned in 2017. I think that the national rhythmic gymnastics team really deserved the center like that,” Irina Leparskaya said.

The new rhythmic gymnastics center will consist of eight grounds, four choreography halls, two halls for young beginner athletes, medical and rehabilitation facilities and, what is most important, the hall of residence for girls. Such conditions will help ensure a system of centralized training which is very important for the gymnasts coming from the regions of the country, Irina Leparskaya said. Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Hall Viktor Laptev informed that the Belarusian Gymnastics Association headquarters will be set up on the premises of the center.
