GOMEL, 17 June (BelTA) – A new Minsk-Gomel motorway will be officially opened by Independence Day, 3 July. A corresponding instruction was given by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko during his working trip to Gomel on 17 June, BelTA informs.
“We agreed to open all traffic lanes by 3 July after the All-Belarusian People’s Congress. We have built a wonderful motorway,” the head of state said. Alexander Lukashenko also gave an instruction to clean up the territory along the motorway before the opening.
Transport and Communications Minister Anatoly Sivak informed the President about the renovation and building of motorways in Belarus in the period till 2019. Plans have been made to build or renovate 152.5km of roads this year. Specialists will work at the second Minsk ring road and the Minsk-Mikashevichi motorway.
It is planned to build or renovate 616.7km of roads in 2017-2019. These include the M6 Minsk – Grodno – the border of Poland motorway. The minister said that a Belarusian contractor won the tender to build the road; the work with the World Bank which is expected to sponsor this project is in progress.
Alexander Lukashenko was briefed on other plans to develop the road network in Belarus. The head of state gave a number of concrete proposals in this field.
