New Apostolic Nuncio arrives in Belarus

MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) - New Apostolic Nuncio (Ambassador of the Vatican) Gabor Pinter arrived in Belarus, BelTA informs with reference to the website of the Roman Catholic Church.

At the airport the Apostolic Nuncio was welcomed by all members of the Conference of the Catholic Bishops of Belarus headed by its Chairman, Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz.

Gabor Pinter said that he is very happy to arrive in Belarus. “It was very interesting to see from the plane how beautiful country Belarus! In many ways it reminded me of Hungary – as many fields,” said the representative of the Pope. “At the moment I am 100% ready to work for the benefit of the Church, your country and the people.” The primary task is to meet with Bishops, priests, believers and government officials. “First of all, I must get familiar with the things in Belarus,” he said.

Remembering his meeting with Pope Francis, the Apostolic Nuncio said: “I saw Pope 13 days ago and almost the first thing we discussed was the recent visit of President Alexander Lukashenko to Rome, his meeting with the Pope, and also the invitation to visit Belarus. The Pope said that we will find time and opportunity to carry out this visit.”

As was reported, in May 2016 Pope Francis appointed Gabor Pinter Apostolic Nuncio in Belarus. Earlier Gabor Pinter held the post of Counselor of the Apostolic Nunciature in Austria. He has served in the Vatican diplomatic service since 1 July 1996. Before Austria he worked in Haiti, Bolivia, Scandinavia, France and the Philippines. He is fluent in several languages: Hungarian, German, Italian, English, French, Spanish, Swedish, Creole and Russian.
