Motto, mascot for 2nd CIS Games in Belarus approved

MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) - Belarus has approved the motto and mascot of the 2nd CIS Games. The decision was taken at a meeting of the organizing committee for international sports competitions in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

At today's meeting the organizing committee considered the proposed sketches of the mascot, logo and slogan for the 2nd CIS Games 2023. “The National Olympic Committee was in charge of the design. This was an example of how our government bodies take the initiative and successfully solve tasks,” Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko said.

Vitaly Ostrovsky, head of the marketing department of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus, has said that the logo reflects a number of major Belarusian elements - the ornamental eight-pointed star, which blooms into a bright cornflower. “The eight-pointed star has great mythological depth, and the cornflower is one of the unofficial symbols of Belarus. In our dynamic stylization of the logo, the cornflower is represented as the national flower (a symbol of hospitality and friendliness) and is dominated by blue colors. You can also see red, black, green and yellow petals around the edges - the colors of the Olympic rings. This shows that we uphold centuries-old Olympic principles and traditions, preserve them and create our own,” he said.

Strong in Spirit, Strong in Competition! slogan conveys the main purpose of the Games in a short and succinct form, said Vitaly Ostrovsky. “The triumph of sport is the moment of an outstanding performance. This moment is impossible without a strong spirit and a will to win,” the NOC representative said.

Rysia the Lynx has been named the mascot of the games. “In heraldry, the lynx is always described as a nimble and quick animal with intelligence and a sharp mind - all qualities that are ideal for a sports mascot. If we take a closer look, we will see that the lynx is decorated in the style of “painted carpets”, an inspiration taken from artist Alena Kish,” Vitaly Ostrovsky added.

The presentation also included a 3D model for making souvenirs, banners and merchandise with the logo of the 2nd CIS Games.
