Moscow, Magadan students attend third Open Journalism Week in Brest

BREST, 14 April (BelTA) – The third Open Journalism Week of the Pushkin Brest State University has become the biggest gathering since its start, expanding its geography, head of the Department of Journalism of the Pushkin Brest State University Lyudmila Skibitskaya told BelTA.

The Open Journalism Week is a creative project proposed by students of the Department of Philology and supported by the administration of the university. This year the forum takes place on 13-16 April. Partaking in it are 50 people. Apart from the hosts, these are students from the Brest State Technical University, the Brest State University, the Moscow Aviation Institute, the Northeastern State University from Magadan, and Brest school students.

It is worth mentioning that Moscow students have been taking part in the Brest Journalism Week for the second time. The Moscow Aviation Institute newspaper won the Grand Prix of the student press competition during the first forum. The Magadan university is represented in Brest for the first time by four students and the Gaudeamus newspaper. Competing with them will be ZhurFakty of the Institute of Journalism of the Brest State University, Nika of the Department of History of the Brest State University, Camertone of Brest Gymnasium No.6.

This year the program of the Week will include a media quest of the city, a photo competition Journalism Week in Focus, a discussion panel Youth Press Prospects, and a meeting with war veterans. The program will traditionally comprise master classes. Special correspondent Konstantin Predybailo will share his skills in sports journalism. Candidate of Historical Sciences Yevgeny Rozenblat will speak about the fundamentals of PR technologies.

“Apart from its educational goal, the Open Journalism Week carries the elements of career guidance since its program also caters for gymnasium, lyceum and school students,” Lyudmila Skibitskaya stated.
