MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Monuments to composer Stanislaw Moniuszko and writer Vintsent Dunin Martinkevich will be erected in Minsk downtown in 2016, Sergei Medvedev, head of the cultural and outreach activities office of the main department for ideology, culture and youth affairs of the Minsk City Hall, told BelTA.
“Monuments to these two outstanding cultural figures will be placed in the Upper Town. The museum exhibition “Minsk Horsecar” near the Minsk Town Hall will be completed this year as well,” said Sergei Medvedev.
In his words, the Year of Culture will feature a myriad of events in the Belarusian capital marking the birthdays of well-known figures of culture and art. Minsk to celebrate the 125th birthday of Maxim Bogdanovich, the 120th birthday of Kondrat Krapiva, the 95th birthdays of Ivan Shamyakin and Ivan Melezh, the 130th birthday of Zmitrok Byadulya, the 140th birthday of Aloiza Pashkevich and the 75th birthday of Vladimir Mulyavin.
Special attention in the Year of Culture will be given to the events to protect and popularize the historical and cultural heritage of the Belarusian people. There are over 630 such facilities in Minsk. According to Sergei Medvedev, work is underway to list, protect and reconstruct them. This year a number of seminars will be held to discuss the protection of the historical and cultural heritage, the opening of museum expositions at secondary schools, children’s music schools, libraries and museums of the city.
