BREST, 26 February (BelTA) – The memorial complex to the liberators of Pinsk will be renovated by the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, BelTA learned from the department for ideology, culture and youth affairs of the Pinsk Town Executive Committee.
The project to renovate the main military and historical landmark of the town has been worked out by OAO Polesyegiprovodkhoz. It envisages serious changes of the main elements of the complex. There are plans to reinforce the memorial stele with the bas-relief of a mourning mother, a soldier and a sailor, replace the memorial shields, upgrade the system of gasification of the Eternal Flame, beautify the territory near the mass grave and the armored gunboat BK-92. The town’s budget will allocate about Br5 billion for the project.
Apart from that, the town will continue the renovation of the Molchanov’s fire position. Te military-historical monument, the battle headquarters of the 1323rd regiment, was unveiled in Pinsk to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the town. The exposition of the complex will be expanded. There are also plans to create the open-air museum of military hardware.
According to chief specialist of the department Yuri Bushik, Pinsk specialists are engaged in extensive research to discover the names of the town’s liberators. As a result, names of 239 soldiers will be placed on the renovated memorial shields. Relatives of a number of soldiers from Saint Petersburg and Tver Oblast are planning to visit Pinsk on Victory Day. The renovated memorial complex will host large-scale celebrations.
