MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – Scientists and specialists in folklore and traditional culture will meet during the international forum “Traditional culture as a strategic resource of sustainable development of the society” due in Mogilev on 24-28 April, BelTA learned from the Mogilev Regional Methodological Center of Folk Art and Cultural Education.
The forum will be attended by representatives of ten countries: Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and China. They are set to discuss the development and strengthening of international cultural relations, the exchange of spiritual and cultural values and to share the experience in the preservation and actualization of the intangible cultural heritage.
The folk art celebration to be held on the first day of the forum will showcase the local artistic groups who will demonstrate Mogilev’s folklore heritage: traditional dances and songs, folk-tunes, round dances and much more. The guests will also learn about the tradition of making straw spiders in Bykhov District. In 2017 it was included in the list of historical and cultural values of Belarus in 2017.
Specialists in decorative and applied art will give a series of master-classes and show their works at a thematic exhibition, namely the accessories and elements to traditional and stylized folk costumes, men and women headwear of the Mogilev region, ceremonial dolls.
The program of the first day also includes the demonstration of traditional Belarusian costumes and the international conference “Folk costume as an element of historical heritage in modern culture”.
The next days will see the award ceremony of the winners of the regional contest-exhibition of the accessories and elements to traditional and stylized folk costumes “The world of shapes and color”, the theatrical folklore performance “The circle of life” (a gala concert of the winners of the regional festival of folklore art).
The festival “Treasures of Mogilev Oblast” near the regional methodological center on 26 April will feature thematic theatrical expositions of Belarusian celebrations and rites. The visitors will have a chance to learn more about the regional cuisine, folklore and local rites.
The organizers of the international forum are the Belarusian Culture Ministry, Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee, Mogilev Regional Methodological Center of Folk Art and Cultural Education.
