MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ Max Mirnyi and Ivan Dodig of Croatia reached the Memphis Open doubles semifinal, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian-Croatian duo, seeded first at the competitions, beat Australia’s John-Patrick Smith and Michael Venus of New Zealand 6-3, 6-4.
In the doubles opener the Belarusian and Croatian players fought pass Nicholas Monroe of the United States and Sweden’s Johan Brunstrom 7-5, 7-6 (9-7).
Max Mirnyi and Ivan Dodig will next face the winner of the match between the German tandem of Benjamin Becker and Dominik Meffert and the international duo of Mariusz Fyrstenberg of Poland and Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico.
Max Mirnyi won the competitions in 2011 and 2012 in pair with Canadian Daniel Nestor. During his long professional career the 37-year-old Belarusian won 48 ATP doubles tournaments teaming up with different tennis players. His recent success (with Horia Tecau) was the victory at the tournament in Beijing in 2013.
The Memphis Open will complete on 15 February.
